Summer is just around the corner, and the only thing hotter than the July sun will be the pool trends we’re anticipating for the year ahead. If you’re looking to upgrade or accessorize your backyard oasis, check out our list of the most in-demand features and functions.
Fire pits and barbeques
Yes, there’s some irony in starting a list of pool trends with fire! But, through the past few years, fire pits and barbecues integrated into the pool deck seem to be at the top of the list for many pool owners.
While people have been lounging on ledges for years, this company and its beautifully curved, UV-resistant, in-water furniture is really starting to get people's’ attention. There’s just something about being warmed by the sun while simultaneously cooled by the water that is very appealing!
Speaking of lounging… tanning ledges continue to grow in popularity, as people want their pool to have a resort feel.
Pool System Automation
Not only are there pool systems that can be fully automated or adjusted from anywhere through an app on your smartphone, it is now possible to have the same kind of control via your in-home personal assistant. “Alexa, please turn on the jets in the spa and dim the pool deck lights.” Your pool equipment can now be a part of the Internet of Things.
Multi-Level Pool/Patio Areas
A recent trend in pool decks is to break up the area around the pool into different levels, often separated by low retaining walls. Many owners feel this allows them to get some separation from the pool when their kids are in high-energy mode while still being able to keep an eye on things.
The “Staycation” Approach
The term has become a little cliché, but the desire for the kinds of multi-level pools, swim-up bars, and negative edges you would see at a tropical resort is as hot as ever. Pool owners are realizing that for a fraction of the cost to take the family on a nice vacation that lasts a week, they can make some pool enhancements that will provide a getaway feel for decades.
Perhaps in a desire to start the pool season earlier and end it later, gas heaters and heat pumps, which used to be the exception, are quickly becoming the rule. One supplier is even expected to come out with a gas heater/heat pump combo this year.
Darker Colored Pool Surfaces
The traditional light blue color of pools is starting to get some stiff competition from darker shades. In addition to looking great, a bonus with dark colors is that they retain more of the sun’s heat so it can cost less to keep your pool warm.
With many power companies offering rebates on them, energy efficient variable-speed pumps are a feature in virtually every new pool install.
Advanced LED Lighting
New innovations in LED lighting mean that rather than having five or six color options, you now have hundreds to choose from. And it’s surprising how much different a change in hue can make a pool look.
Keeping You on Top of Trends
One of the things we love about this business is that there is always an exciting new development just around the bend and eager pool owners ready to take advantage of it. This year will be no different. In fact, we think it’s going to be a banner year for advances in our industry. Got questions about any of the trends in our list or others you may have heard about?
